A forum promoting the digitalization of Zhoushan, an island city in East China's Zhejiang province, was held on April 26 in the city's Putuo district.
More than 20 guests made keynote speeches on topics such as digital economy, the digital transformation of government, the development of an intelligent city, and the creation of an environmentally-friendly petrochemical industry.
The forum will shed light on the city's digitalization efforts using cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, internet of things (IoT), cloud computing and big data.
Several applications of these technologies were displayed at the forum, including a 5G VR (virtual reality) device and a 5G robot.

With its high speed, low latency and high reliability, 5G opens up new possibilities for intelligent transportation and manufacturing, remote medical care and education, as well as high-definition entertainment.
China Mobile Zhoushan has already launched 5G trial base stations in several areas of the city, and will strive to put them into commercial use by 2020.
At the forum, the municipal government of Zhoushan signed an agreement with China Mobile Zhejiang to cooperate in 5G, IoT, big data and cloud platform development, which is expected to boost the city's digital economy.
