A total of 63,037 sea-buckthorns will be planted in Bojianghaizi town, Ordos. A ceremony to mark the event was held on the 50th World Earth Day on April 22.

The ceremony was held by the China Green Foundation, the government of Ordos, and the e-commerce platform Ebeidian.

Bojianghaizi town is situated between the Mu Us and Kubuqi deserts. As a result, it is plagued by sand storms over 20 days a year.

Every fully-grown sea-buckthorn is able to secure 10 square meters of sand, as their huge root systems can prevent the evaporation of water in soil. Thus, the trees are commonly planted in deserts to fight against further desertification.

The trees planted during the activity are expected to secure 600,000 square meters of sand and create an ecological circle covering nearly 1 million square meters.
