Sharing-VAN, an intelligent unmanned vehicle connected to 5G network, was officially released at a news conference at Xianghu Lake Tourist Resort Area, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province on April 23.

Developed by China Mobile and Dongfeng Automobile, the driverless vehicle is China's first 5G autonomous vehicle to operate on open roads in scenic spots.

The vehicle has no driver seats, steering wheel or brakes, but comes equipped with eight high-definition cameras, four radars, autopilot, and is capable of identifying pedestrians, avoiding obstacles, detecting traffic lights and driving according to the speed limits of different areas.

"The vehicle is spacious and more comfortable than traditional electric tourist buses," said one visitor.

A cooperation agreement signed between Xianghu Lake Tourist Resort Area and China Mobile Xiaoshan Branch was inked at the news conference, with the two sides pledging to cooperate in 5G application, intelligent management, intelligent services, and intelligent marketing.

As the first tourist attraction to make use of 5G network in Zhejiang province, Xianghu will strive to provide high-quality services for visitors by tapping into the potential of other innovative applications such as pick up services with driverless cars, augmented reality tourist guides, and virtual reality experiences.
