Over 200 volunteers from government organs, enterprises, universities, and other social institutions planted more than 400 Mongolian Scots pines in Horinger New Area in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on April 19.

The event is part of the Shengle International Ecological Demonstrative Area program of The Nature Conservancy (TNC). It was launched in 2010 with the support of the China Green Carbon Foundation, Lao Niu Foundation, and Inner Mongolia forestry authority.

The Shengle International Ecological Demonstrative Area, which suffered from serious soil erosion and desertification decades ago, has been slowly becoming greener due to afforestation efforts.

“The area will receive hundreds of millions of dollars for plant restoration, water resource management, and green industry in the near future,” said a worker at TNC.
