Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina)

Power Construction Corporation of China is a wholly state-owned company established on the basis of electric survey design, engineering, and equipment manufacturing enterprises including Sinohydro Corporation, HydroChina Group, State Grid Corporation of China and China Southern Power Grid Company Limited in 14 provinces (municipalities, districts) in 2011 approved by the State Council.

The corporation is the recognized authority in China in terms of the management of technologies in hydropower, wind power and solar power and an authoritative institution for technologies in thermal power and power transmission and transformation, with businesses engaged in the fields of planning, investigation, design, consultation and research of hydropower, water resource, thermal power, and power transformation and transmission projects.

It is at the highest level in water conservation projects in China, and acts as a major force in river harnessing and hydropower development. The corporation has built more than 100 gigantic hydropower plants, including the one at the Three-Gorges on the Yangtze River, the Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba on the Jinsha River, and the Xiaowan on the Lancang River.

The corporation has carried out many scientific researches in the fields of hydro power, thermal power, wind power and new energy resource. It has played a crucial role in development of technical standards for China’s hydropower and wind power industries and formulated many technical standards for thermal power and power transformation and transmission. It is a world leader in high/low pressure thermal power plants, air-cooled generator units, UHVAC-DC power transmission and transformation, ancillary works for nuclear power, natural gas, shale gas, garbage power, solar power, wind power, biomass power, geo-thermal power and distributed energy equipment, and has been entrusted by the National Energy Administration to review designs of hydropower projects with an installed capacity of more than 250 MW and wind and solar power projects with an installed capacity of 50 MW or higher.

By 2017, the group has set up 322 overseas institutions in 109 countries in the world, and carried out 2,586 contracts for survey and design consulting, project contracting, equipment and trade supply in 120 countries. Its overseas business markets are mainly in Asia and Africa and it promotes to expand high -end markets in Latin America and Eastern Europe, and radiating North America and Oceania, forming a diversified market structure centered on water conservancy and power construction and involved the comprehensive development of roads and rail transit, municipal administration, housing construction, and water treatment.

The group has won many honors including 86 prizes of “The Luban Prize for Construction Project”, 44 golden prizes and 146 ordinary prizes of National Quality Award, 22 China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award, and many other awards.
