5G application in Liaoning sees breakthrough

A multimedia phone call supported by a 5G network was successfully made on April 15 in the 5G exhibition area of the Liaoning Department of Industry and Information Technology. 

It was the first phone call in Northeast China to use 5G technology and was an important step toward the commercialization of 5G technology in Liaoning.

The Liaoning branch of China Mobile, one of China's three communication giants, has completed construction on a 5G core network and business system, as well as a 5G mobile end-to-end network in the Shenyang area.

The 5G stations already built in Liaoning cover 5G application demonstration areas such as the Shenyang BMW Plant, the Shenyang Machine Tool Plant, Shenyang Siasun Robot Co Ltd, the Shenyang International Software Park, the Shenyang TV Station, Dalian Airport, and the Dalian Railway Station.

Another 12 cities throughout the province are also in the process of establishing 5G stations.

By the end of this year, Shenyang and Dalian are expected to achieve full 5G coverage in some core urban areas, and 12 other cities are expected to achieve partial 5G coverage in hotspots and demonstration areas.

Meanwhile, Liaoning is exploring how to apply 5G in medicine, energy, education, transportation, and robotics.
