Founded in October 1950, Shandong Normal University was the first university offering undergraduate education in Shandong province after the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.
The university now has two campuses in the Lixia and Changqing districts of Jinan city, covering a total area of about 4,000 mu (266.67 hectares). It boasts 84 undergraduate majors, three of which have entered the top 1 percent in the global rankings set by the Essential Science Indicators, also known as ESI, an authoritative analysis and evaluation tool for measuring scientific research performance.
The university has established a complete education system covering preschool, primary, secondary, higher and adult education, as well as a system to cultivate pedagogy talents, including bachelors, masters, doctors and post-doctors, making it the only university in the province that runs the two systems at the same time.
Shandong Normal University has established inter-school exchange and cooperation relations with 132 colleges and universities in 28 countries and regions around the world. It has built up four Confucius Institutes and one Confucius Classroom in South Korea, Kenya, the United States and Brazil through international collaboration.
