China Tobacco Zhejiang Industrial Co Ltd was transformed from the Zhejiang China Tobacco Industrial Corporation, a State-owned tobacco company, and was one of the first provincial industrial enterprises in China to establish a system of a board of directors.
In July 2003, Zhejiang Tobacco divided its industrial and commercial sectors and established China Tobacco Zhejiang Industrial Corporation. With approval from the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration on Sept 19, 2006, the company reorganized itself with two former subsidiaries, Hangzhou Cigarette Factory and Ningbo Cigarette Factory. Since then, China Tobacco Zhejiang Industrial Corporation has been officially regarded as a legal entity.
On Nov 30, 2007, the company set up a board of directors and officially changed its name to Zhejiang China Tobacco Industry Co Ltd.
In fitting the requirements of the modern enterprise system, the company strives to build an efficient internal operation mechanism, with 16 departments of institutions established in Hangzhou and Ningbo, as well as two cigarette factories and one investment company.
The company boasts three renowned brands of tobacco: Liqun, Dahongying and Lion, among which Liqun is one of the batch of “China Time-honored Brands” identified by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
While focusing mainly on the domestic market, the company also actively explores overseas markets. Brands such as Modern are exported to more than 20 countries and regions such as the Middle East, South America and Indonesia.
In 2018, the company's domestic sales scale ranked third in the industry, while its overseas sales ranked fourth. The market value of the company’s major brand, Liqun, rated second place in the country. The company contributed tax of 43.82 billion yuan ($6.53 billion), ranking sixth in the industry.
