A press conference on the publication of an atlas of the history of Inner Mongolia was held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on April 2.

Based on the maps of Inner Mongolia throughout different historical periods, the atlas reflects on the historical development of the autonomous region and fills in blank spaces in the region's map data.

Providing direct visual evidence of historical research, the atlas is important for building culture, tourism development, and environmental protection in the region.

Zhang Ruixin, director of the Inner Mongolia Bureau of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation, said that a systematic and accurate record of geographical and historical changes can help clarify population distribution, migration, and breeding habits in Inner Mongolia.

The atlas is divided into three sections: introductory maps, historical evolution maps, and geographical indices.

Initiated in 2007, the atlas was organized by the regional bureau of surveying, mapping and geoinformation and compiled by historians from Inner Mongolia University, Inner Mongolia Normal University, and institutions such as the Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences.
