An exhibition of traditional Chinese paintings and calligraphy works took place in Yangzhou, East China's Jiangsu province on April 3.

The exhibition displayed more than 100 works by renowned artists such as Shi Tao, Li Yin and Zheng Banqiao, showcasing the unique style of Yangzhou calligraphy and painting from the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) until the Republic of China period (1912-1949).

"Some of the works were provided by collectors in North America and Europe and were exhibited in China for the first time," said Pang Ou, a researcher from Nanjing Museum.

The exhibition provides an opportunity for Yangzhou's artists to reflect and hopefully be inspired to carry on the traditional culture, according to Yao Danhui, a painter in Yangzhou.

According to an official announcement, the exhibition will last until April 13. In the meantime, there will be a number of activities on offer, including international academic seminars and thematic academic reports.
