The Jinan municipal government released a plan in April 2017 to prioritize the development of 10 industries and optimized it in August 2018 to foster new drivers of growth and promote the city's industrial transformation and upgrading.
The 10 industries are big data and new generation of information technology, intelligent manufacturing and high-end equipment, quantum science and technology, biological medicine, advanced materials, industrial finance, modern logistics, healthcare, cultural tourism, and scientific and technological services.
It is expected that by 2020, the development potential of the city's big data and new generation of information technology industry would reach 500 billion yuan ($74.45 billion), the intelligent manufacturing and high-end equipment industry would hit 200 billion yuan, and the other eight industries would be 100 billion yuan.
Big data and new generation of information technology
Jinan, the capital of Shandong province, is promoting the integrated and innovative development of internet technologies and industry, and accelerating the construction of an industrial cluster and a whole industrial chain for big data.
A whole cloud computing industrial chain, involving high-end fault-tolerant computers, high-performance servers, network equipment, and cloud services terminals, is also being developed in the city.
Jinan will speed up the development of its integrated circuit industry, as well as intellectual industries of the internet of things, applied electronics, digital family, application of spatial geographic information, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and deep learning.
Intelligent manufacturing and high-end equipment
The city continues to promote research and development (R&D) of core technologies and key components for the intelligent manufacturing industry, and carrying out digitized transformation in the automobile, electronics and machinery industries.
The R&D and production of high-end numerical control machine tools is being boosted in Jinan city, and research into core robot technologies is being conducted. Priorities were put on the development of intelligent, modular and systematized industrial robot technologies and products.
The city is devoted to developing intelligent (rail) vehicles and shield tunneling machines, as well as their control systems.
The development of large, clean and efficient power generation equipment and the establishment of a featured industrial base for smart power grids are also being accelerated. The city is also focusing on developing the equipment and engineering industries in solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and air energy.
Efforts are being made to develop high-end instruments and apparatuses, including automatic control systems, functional checkout equipment and online process analyzers.
