Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School opens its doors

Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, the only off-site school of the university in China, recently opened its doors in Shenzhen, Guangdong province.

Jointly founded by Tsinghua University and the government of Shenzhen, the school offers courses in seven fields - energy materials, information technology, medicine and healthcare, smart city, marine engineering, environmental ecology and innovation management.

It aspires to be a world-class graduate school, bringing together the excellent faculty members and postgraduate students, according to Qiu Yong, president of Tsinghua University.

Chen Rugui, the mayor of Shenzhen, said Tsinghua University has made a variety of contributions to Shenzhen and to the country. He said Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School will make greater contributions to the development of innovative higher educational system in Shenzhen.

Qiu said the international graduate school is committed to accelerating the coordinated development of economic and social environment in Shenzhen, helping Tsinghua University be a world-class university and making innovative contributions to the sustainable developments of Shenzhen, as well as that of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

He added that Tsinghua University chose to establish the international graduate school in Shenzhen as the city is "the most innovative" in China.

"Tsinghua University has the spirit of pursuing reforms. I hope that the Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School could seize the opportunity and take the initiative to serve the rapid development of the region, working as the connection between Shenzhen and the world," he said.
