According to local media reports, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region started construction on its first green prefabricated building in Hohhot, the capital of the region, on March 30.

Prefabricated buildings are buildings whose components are assembled in a factory or other manufacturing site and then transported to the site where the structure is to be located.

The region plans to continue using prefabricated buildings to promote the transformation of the construction industry. Hohhot, Baotou, and Chifeng are listed as pilot cities for prefabricated buildings, and by 2020, 15 percent of all new buildings in Hohhot are expected to be prefabricated. By 2025, this number is expected to surpass 40 percent in Hohhot and Baotou. More than 70 percent of prefabricated building projects will be government-funded.

Starting this year, prefabricated buildings are expected to become more and more common throughout Inner Mongolia, as they are safer and more environmentally-friendly than traditional construction techniques.
