Construction on the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences is coming along in Hunnan district, Shenyang, Northeast China's Liaoning province, according to a report by the Shenyang Evening News.

The institute unveiled its nameplate in Shenyang on Oct 24, 2018. Construction on the office buildings and facilities had not yet started at that time.

Seven of the institute's eight office buildings have now finished construction and entered the approval stage. Construction of supporting facilities, such as the Intelligent Management Center and Internet Data Center, has been completed.

Meanwhile, the National Robot Testing and Evaluation Center and the Special Robot Equipment Center have officially begun operating.

The Institute is currently in its first phase of development and has a total construction area of over 90,000 square meters.

Facilities currently under construction include an advanced guidance technology and equipment research and development center, an underwater robotics technology and equipment research and development center, an intelligent equipment technological innovation building, an information and integrated service center, the National Robot Testing and Evaluation Center, the Special Robot Equipment Center, a pressure testing workshop, and a radar darkroom.

The most notable part of the institute is the National Robot Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, which is capable of testing and inspecting robots, certifying products, revising standards, technical support, information consultation, and training services.

The center has established a cooperative relationship with the German Technischer Überwachungs-Verein (TÜV, Technical Inspection Association), becoming its contract laboratory.

The testing capabilities of the center have expanded to more than 150 standards and over 500 projects and involve products such as industrial and service robots, drones, motors, and reducers.
