Qilu Hospital partners with Shandong Unicom to build 5G laboratory

Qilu Hospital of Shandong University has pledged to join hands with Shandong Unicom to build a 5G laboratory in Jinan, capital city of Shandong province, as part of efforts to promote the application of the 5G technology in the healthcare sector.

The 5G medicine laboratory, the first of its kind in Shandong province, will prove to be an important step for the city to explore a new treatment model for the increasingly technology-reliant healthcare industry, according to an announcement at the inauguration ceremony held on March 26.

Qilu Hospital has attached great importance to the construction of smart hospitals and technological innovation. As a strategic partner of Qilu hospital, Shandong Unicom has provided strong technical support in healthcare and will achieve cooperation in the fields of mobile ward rounds, remote consultation and live surgery.

Li Xingang, the dean of Qilu Hospital, noted that the first 5G base station in medical industry was opened in the hospital on March 19.

The establishment of the 5G laboratory will offer a clear demonstration of the successful combination of 5G technology and the healthcare industry, he added.

5G networks will play a more important role in the healthcare industry. Han Bing, the vice manager of Shandong Union said that the high bandwidth of 5G network can support multi-channel high definition video, medical VR and other applications. It also can realize the application of remote surgery based on remote tactile transmission.

Additionally, the two sides also inked a cooperative agreement in developing a solution for 5G telemedicine business and 5G telemedicine products.

It is expected that the two sides will seek in-depth exchange and collaboration to help the application of the internet of things, big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence in the medical sector and promote the city's smart healthcare development.
