A key alliance for grassland ecological restoration was unveiled in Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on March 21.

As a non-profit union, the alliance has been organized by companies, research institutions and  local cooperatives in areas undergoing grassland restoration.

Over 40 companies, research institutes and organizations have sent membership applications to the new body.

Last year, 110 such innovation alliances were approved by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration across the country.

These alliances aim at establishing new platforms to allocate resources for innovation in the forestry and grassland industry.

Su He, deputy director of the regional forestry and grassland department, explained that the average grassland coverage rate in Inner Mongolia has increased to 40 percent from 30 percent at the beginning of the 21st century.

He pointed out that the low participation and technical bottlenecks had previously set back the restoration of grasslands in Inner Mongolia.

The alliance plans to conduct surveys and promote the latest technologies in restoration across the region. It will also establish demonstration bases with partnerships of farmers and herdsmen.

It is also expected to release rules for restoration work, to standardize the sector.
