Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province hit a record high in the number of talents it introduced last year, according to the city's education bureau.

Statistics show that the city introduced 9,157 new college graduates in 2018, up 52 percent year-on-year and nearly 2.7 times more than the number of Zhoushan native students heading for colleges elsewhere that year.

The newly-introduced talents account for 0.8 percent of the city's total permanent population, among whom 7,838 are from schools of higher learning from outside the city while 1,319 are from local ones.

The city has strengthened its effort in introducing talents in recent years by improving policies, publicity and multi-party cooperation.

It has launched a three year (2017-2020) action plan on attracting innovative talents and released several measures to facilitate college graduates' internship and employment in Zhoushan, which give them extra benefits in various aspects such as housing and academic title appraisal.

It has also established partnerships with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Ocean University of China, China University of Petroleum and Dalian Maritime University in talent introduction, and organized more than 40 job fairs for college graduates last year.

According to the city's human resources and social security department, Zhoushan will continue to boost its local employment by offering more subsidies to college graduates who decide to work and start business there.
