A flock of migratory birds was spotted at Togtoh county in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on March 14.

More than 10,000 swans and 20,000 swan geese arrived at a wetland of Shu'erliang village where they are expected to rest before continuing their journey to Lake Baikal in Russia.

He Peng, an official at the county’s forest public security department said that local farms planted crops along the wetland, which provides a perfect place for the birds to seek food.

He revealed that the birds had arrived at the wetland on March 7, attracting crowds of visitors to the area.

According to the local forest bureau, flocks of migratory birds arrive in the city from March to May each year.

And local authorities have recently introduced new measures to protect the birds, including stepping up patrols in protected areas and improving public education on the importance of protecting the environment.
