March 12 marks China's National Tree Planting Day to raise public awareness of environmental protection.

Government officials and representatives of foreign enterprises from Wuxi National Hi-tech District (WND), including the district Party Secretary Wang Jinjian, planted trees in a newly-built ecological park in the district near Taihu Lake.

The newly-built ecological park, with a total planning area of 334,800 square meters, will be covered with over 2,000 cherry trees and be open to the public in April.

By the end of 2018, a total of 4,896 hectares of trees had been planted in WND, of which 606.3 hectares are in public areas. The green coverage rate has so far reached 33 percent.
