Jinan plans to build 2,589 5G base stations in 2019

Jinan, capital city of East China's Shandong province, has pledged to bolster the development of 5G technology in the city and take the lead in the race to develop the fifth generation wireless networks.

Accordingly, the city is striving to promote 5G network coverage and aiming to build 2589 5G base stations in 10 districts and 2 counties under its jurisdiction in 2019.

China Unicom has finished the first branch of 5G base station construction covering municipal government and the Daming Lake Scenic Spot.

"The Daming Lake Scenic Spot has become the first 5A scenic spot 5G base station in China," Zhang Peng, the general manager of Jinan branch of China Unicom.

Jinan will complete construction of 5G signal coverage in the city's west railway station by March 15, he added.

Jinan city possesses great advantages in the race. As a renowned Chinese software city, the city enjoys a prosperous digital economy and comprehensive information infrastructure.

In 2018, Jinan's digital economy reached 290 billion yuan ($43.2 billion) in value, accounting for about 37 percent of the city's total economic output. Its software and information service sectors rank first in the province. It also rolled out a series of plans to bolster 5G network construction.

The city will also connect 5G technology with various industries such as smart logistics, 5A scenic spot VR experience, intelligent medicine and education VR to promote the application of the 5G networks.
