Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has set itself a target of increasing its herd by 50,000 cows every year from the current year to 2022, according to a policy released by the municipal government on March 5.

The new policy target is part of wider efforts by the city to push forward with the revitalization of its dairy industry.

The policy requires that by the end of 2022, the number of cows in the city will total 500,000 head.

Hohhot will also expand the planting area given over to corn and clover to 66,666 hectares and 13,333 hectares respectively, and accelerate the development of its breeding system to improve the productivity of its herd.

Financial support is also a major feature of the policy, which stipulates that the local government will offer subsides to individuals, companies and cooperatives to plant forge grass, establish new farms and import cows.
