The city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia autonomous region is planning to add three more 5A-level scenic areas in the city, according to a government report released at this year’s Ordos Municipal People’s Congress held from Feb 27 to March 2.

The report mentioned that Ordos will elevate the Seven-star Lake, the Yellow River Grand Canyon and Salawusu to 5A-level scenic spots, with the three currently rated 4A.

The Seven-star Lake tourist attraction is located in Hanggin Banner and is known for its impressive lake, diverse wildlife, misty scenery and lush grass. There are seven lakes each with clear water which appear to form the shape of the Plough, giving the area its name.

In 2011, the Seven-star Lake was confirmed as the permanent site of the "Kubuqi International Desert Forum" by the UN.

The Salawusu Tourism Resort is located in Uxin Banner, and consists of two parts –– the Salawusu Civilization site scenic area ("Ordos Man" site) and Batuwan scenic area. It has China's largest desert valley, and is known as the land of fish, rice, flowers and fruit in Ordos.

The Yellow River Grand Canyon is situated in Juungar Banner, with a length of more than 80 kilometers. It is known for being one of China’s most beautiful canyons.

Apart from developing more 5A-level scenic spots, Ordos Municipal Government also plans other measures to fuel the growth of Ordos’ tourism industry, including the building of more boutique hotels, and by improving services for tourists and developing transportation.
