Hangzhou makes scientific, technological innovation a priority

Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province will take concrete steps to propel scientific and technological innovation and boost high-quality economic development this year, according to a meeting held on Feb 28.

Home to many of China's leading innovative enterprises such as Alibaba and Hikvision, the city recorded 194.84 billion yuan ($29.05 billion) in the added value of hi-tech companies last year, a year-on-year increase of 10.8 percent.

A total of 10,267 invention patents were granted, and three projects won the 2018 National Science and Technology Award.

This year, Hangzhou will continue to develop its digital economy by focusing on the integration of industrialization of digital resources, digitalization of industries, urban digitalization, increase investment on scientific research and advance leading industries and technologies.

The city plans to introduce 20 high-end foreign expert projects, 200 overseas intelligence projects, and 10,000 overseas professional talents, while supporting the development of major scientific research institutions and universities.

In terms of high and new technology industries, Hangzhou is expected to increase investment by 10 percent and introduce 1,000 new national hi-tech companies, 1,500 provincial-level small and micro companies, 800 new technology startups, and 200 new provincial and above research and development institutions.
