With three more wharves having recently gained the approval of provincial authorities to operate, Zhoushan now has altogether 89 wharves open to the public, local media reported.

The three wharves include No 1 and No 2 Outfitting Quays of the Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding Inc, and the 300,000-metric-ton-capacity quay of the Waidiao Oil Emergency Storage and Transportation Co.

The Tsuneishi quays specialize in the building of ship bridges and ships with the maximum capacity of handling 100,000 tons of cargo, while the Waidiao quay, which controls one of the main channels of oil imports to Zhoushan's green petrochemical base, focuses mainly on the storage and selling of crude oil and bunker fuel.

"The opening of the three quays will provide a sound platform for the construction of a whole oil and gas industrial chain in the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone located in Zhoushan, and drive the development of the shipbuilding industry of Zhoushan Archipelago New Area," said Xu Nanfang, deputy head of Zhoushan Customs.
