Seven departments including the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs as well as the National Development and Reform Commission have jointly issued a plan for the high-quality development of agriculture (2018-22).
The plan points out that the five-year period presents a significant opportunity to promote the high-quality development of agriculture, and efforts should be made to create a new situation for rejuvenating agriculture through quality development, and make a solid foundation for all-around rural rejuvenation and the modernization of agriculture and rural areas nationwide.
The strategic plan sets out a clear timetable and road map for rejuvenating agriculture through quality development.
According to the plan, by 2022 an institutional framework for the high-quality development of agriculture should be in place and the goals of high product quality, high industrial benefit, high production efficiency, high practitioner quality and strong international competitiveness should be met.
By 2035, the modernization of agriculture and rural areas should be basically achieved.
In terms of high product quality, it is expected that the overall passing rate of agricultural products' routine safety inspection should be above 98 percent. And the amount of green, organic, local specialties and best-practice agricultural product registration should increase 6 percent every year.
