Establishment of Hefei Export Processing Zone was approved by the State Council in 2010. In 2012, the zone started operation after passing the joint examination and inspection by General Administration of Customs and nine State ministries and commissions.
In the past years, the zone has witnessed rapid development and significant rises on various economic indexes. In 2013, its industrial output value reached 14.15 billion yuan ($2.09 billion), and the import and export volume exceeded $1.2 billion, ranking 13th among the nation's export processing zones.
In the first half of 2014, the zone showed sky-rocketing economic indexes, with its industrial output value reaching more than 17 billion yuan, and the import and export volume totaling $2 billion.
