Dazzling light show marks Chinese lunar New Year in Hangzhou

A dazzling light show featuring the upcoming Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year kicked off at Qianjiang New Town of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Feb 1.

Running until Feb 10, the 5-minute show is staged two times a day at 6:30pm and 7:30pm.

Consisting of three sections, the show presents traditional elements of Chinese culture such as paper cuttings and ink wash paintings with projections of pig images in celebration of the upcoming Year of the Pig.

As part of efforts to promote the city image of Hangzhou, the Qianjiang New Town light show has developed into a name card in showcasing the city to the world.

Since G20 Summit 2016, Hangzhou has staged over 10 spectacular lights shows marking such things as Hangzhou being the host of the Asian Games 2022 and the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up.

Chinese Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, falls on Feb 5 this year.
