Nantong High-Tech Industrial Development Zone was set up in 1992 and was upgraded to a national-level development zone in December 2013 with a planning area of 5.5 square kilometers.
The zone has five leading industries: electronic information, precision machinery, new materials and new energy, auto parts and a modern service industry.
In 2015, the total output of scale-sized industries in the zone reached 49.21 billion yuan ($7.25 billion), up 11.6 percent year-on-year. The zone's high-tech industrial output climbed by 13.7 percent year-on-year to 27.31 billion yuan.
