CPPCC Wuxi Committee opens annual session

The third session of the 14th Wuxi Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) commenced in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province on Jan 21.

More than 400 CPPCC members from all walks of life participated in the session to debate the work of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC Wuxi Committee and make suggestions for deliberations.

Wuxi hopes to grow into a city with a strong economy, rich and diverse population, beautiful environment, and a highly civilized society.

As the four-day session kicked off to the rousing sounds of the Chinese national anthem, Wuxi's Party secretary, Li Xiaomin, delivered his keynote speech.

Li recalled the achievements Wuxi has made in the past year, particularly ones which have helped industrial transformation and upgrading and built Wuxi a prosperous and charming city.

Li emphasized the sustained quality growth of Wuxi. According to the 19th CPC National Congress, the principal contradiction in the new era of China is between unbalanced and inadequate development and the people's ever-growing needs for a better life. The only answer is sustained quality growth in the city.

The Party secretary also highlighted the importance of upgrading industry, protecting the environment, continuing reforms, and improving the livelihood of citizens.

Zhou Minwei, chairman of the 14th Wuxi Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, reviewed the work of last year and introduced the major projects scheduled for 2019.

Under the leadership of Wuxi Municipal Party Committee, the CPPCC Wuxi committee focused on unity and democracy, making great contributions in promoting the economy and generating social stability.

He stressed that the CPPCC Wuxi Committee will focus on efforts to modernize the city.

Zhou added that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and that the CPPCC Wuxi committee will continue to develop under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, tightening organizational and democratic supervision to help the Wuxi government build a better society.
