Authorities in Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region have recently completed an ambitious project to develop a database of all skilled workers and professionals employed in the city, according to local media reports.

The database is part of efforts by the local government to have access to a local “talent pool”.

So far, around 2,674 companies and institutions in the city have reported their workers’ details, with the information of 100,000 employees now collected.

Statistics reveal that Ordos ranks first in Inner Mongolia in terms of the number of skilled workers, compared to other cities that maintain similar databases.

The development of the database is part of an autonomous region initiative to get cities to collect and maintain information on their workers, in order to get a clear idea of skills gaps that might impact economic growth.

Ordos’ database has 143 different information categories, including areas for a worker’s personal information, training, and professional qualifications.

Companies and institutions can log into the system and update a worker’s information at any time, and the local government is able to analyze the data held to help inform decisions on human resource management.
