Hohhot Baita International Airport plans to open 128 air routes during Spring Festival travel rush, which starts on Jan 21, an increase of 13.27 percent from the same period last year.

The airport, located at the capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is likely to see 290 flights daily during the 40-day travel rush, also known as chunyun.

The newly launched routes will be operated by 33 airlines, connecting 68 domestic and five international cities.

The airport has geared up to full capacity to handle the annual surge of travelers.

It plans to increase the frequency of certain flights every day to deal with an increased number of passengers traveling to major cities, especially capital cities and tourism hotspots such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu.

Nine cities including Wenzhou, Zhuhai, Yantai, Xinyang and Xuzhou are scheduled to be included in the airport's air network during the travel rush.

The increased flights will help improve the passengers' travel experience.
