The third Session of the 11th Hangzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) kicked off in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, on the afternoon of Jan 19.

A total of 504 CPPCC members participated in the session to be briefed on the work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC Hangzhou Committee and a report on how the Standing Committee has handled proposals put forward by committee members since the previous session.

Pan Jiawei, chairman of CPPCC Hangzhou Committee reviewed the work of last year and introduced the major projects scheduled for 2019.

He stressed that as this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the CPPCC Hangzhou Committee will focus on efforts to modernize the city and build it into a world renowned metropolis with unique charm.

Proposals on the building of local museums, taking influence from iconic museums around the world such as the Louvre in Paris, British Museum in London and Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, whilst also instilling the city's own characteristics, were warmly received by local authorities.

During the session, the committee's vice-chairman, Feng Renqiang revealed how well certain tasks had been carried out since the previous session and how the committee had dealt with last year's proposals.

Since the second session of the 11th Hangzhou Municipal Committee of CPPCC, 617 proposals have been received, of which 595 have been put on file, said Feng.

The session lasts five days and will end on Jan 23.
