Citizens' private information reselling, cross-border telecommunication fraud, and the first Bitcoin case···all of these matters show that the wider the application of electronic information technology is, the cleverer and higher the means and the frequency of electronic data crime are.

The electronic data forensics laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Nansha has solved and closed more than 200 cases, more than 80% of themmajor and more than half with a high degree of difficulty.

"Current crimes basically involve electronic data evidence. The obtaining of electronic data evidence will become the biggest challenge in the detection of future criminal cases. Nansha's electronic data forensics laboratory has the leading technologies in the country. The investigation and evidence collection and judicial appraisal of the case could ensure that the law is fair and just," Li Changyu said at the forum.

Focusing on the technology of electronic data forensics, Academician Shen Changxiang and Fang Binxing of the Chinese Academy of Sciences made a speech respectively on "Building a safe and credible network ecological environment with a scientific network security concept" and "Talking about network space security from the perspective of the risk dimension" at the opening forum.

In 2016, the Guangzhou Software Institute appointed researcher Ding Liping, a well-known scientist in the field of electronic data forensics research, as its director general and took the lead in setting up an electronic data forensics laboratory.

The laboratory is committed to researching the legal and technical issues of system security and electronic data forensics and actively developingindustrial and academicinterest in those areas.

Currently, it has four companies and six joint laboratories conducting research on mobile forensics, blockchains, password cracking, network public opinion analysis, and time certification and has established relationships with many foreign universities.

“Guangzhou Software Institute has a relatively solid technical foundation,” said Xu Rongsheng, chief scientist of the Network Security Laboratory of the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He added that the electronic data forensics laboratory has developed rapidly since its establishment and become an emerging force in the field of electronic data forensics in China.
