17th Yantai People's congress holds its third session

The third session of the 17th Yantai People's Congress opened at the Yantai International Expo Center, Yantai, East China's Shandong province on Jan 16, with 443 delegates in attendance.

Chen Fei, the acting mayor of Yantai, presented the local government work report, highlighting several significant achievements the local government has made over the last year.

According to Chen, Yantai has made steady progress in developing its local economy and improving the livelihoods of its residents, and has reached the targets it set in 2018.

The city's gross domestic product (GDP) roughly reached 790 billion yuan ($114.4 billion) in 2018 with a year-on-year increase of around 6.5 percent. Its general public budget revenue grew by 6 percent to 63.66 billion yuan.

The reform and opening up of the city has also seen a progression. The city introduced 105 million yuan of foreign investment in 2018. Its import and export value reached 308 billion yuan. Throughout last year, Yantai focused on upgrading and transforming its industries, and developing its manufacturing sector and marine economy to seek high-quality development.

During his presentation of the work report, he also outlined the roadmap for economic and social development in 2019.

The local government will continue to endeavor to promote the upgrading of its industries, push forward with reform and opening-up and ramp up efforts to boost ecological tourism.

The city is aiming for an increase of 6.5 percent in its GDP in 2019. Its general public budget revenue is set to grow by around 5.5 percent. It is striving to build an international coastal city with a strong manufacturing sector, marine economy and a pleasant environment for residents and tourists alike.
