Located in the core region of Xiangjiang New Area, Hunan province, Wangcheng Economic and Technological Development Zone is planned to be a comprehensive and three-dimensional transportation hub integrating high-speed rail, interurban railways, subways, expressways and city buses, according to the construction plan of Changsha.
Founded in 2000, the zone was upgraded into national level by the State Council in 2014. With a planning area of 85 square kilometers, the zone occupies four main industrial clusters: smart manufacturing, food processing, electronic information and modern commercial logistics. There are 162 industrial enterprises above designated size, 51 listed or Fortune Global 500 companies, four national-level laboratories and three National Enterprise Technical Centers in the zone.
In 2017, the gross industrial output value above designated size reached 104.5 billion yuan ($15.47 billion), up 15.6 percent. Its general financial revenue hit 4.01 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 10.2 percent. The fixed-asset and industrial investment were 19 billion and 18.48 billion yuan respectively, growing by 55 percent and 46.7 percent year-on-year.
Seizing the opportunity to make Changsha a national transportation distribution center, the zone strives to be a new urban traffic hub, an important window for opening-up and a center for logistics clusters in western Changsha.
