Jiading Export Processing Zone, part of Shanghai Jiading Industrial Zone, was set up in June 2005 under the approval of the State Council, China's Cabinet. It sits in the center of Yangtze River Delta region, with Taicang to the north, Jiading New Town to the south, Kunshan to the west and Baoshan district to the east.
The zone covers 5.96 square kilometers of land, of which 3 square kilometers is designated for export processing. To date, the zone has developed three functional areas with a full range of fundamental facilities, customs checkpoints, logistics warehouses and industrial services.
The leading industries are modern manufacturing featuring automobile parts, new materials, as well as electronics. The zone has also formed a vigorous e-commerce ecosystem consisting of about 100 cross-border e-commerce platforms and service providers, including JD and Vanke. Both domestic and overseas enterprises are welcomed to open regional centers, as the zone is intending to expand its business scope in bonded logistics, R&D, delivery, inspection, maintenance and international purchasing.
In the first month of 2018, the total number of cross-border e-commerce orders added up to 138,411, increasing by 31 times compared to the same period from the previous year. The trade volume reached a record high of 64.87 million yuan ($9.6 million), up 13 times year on year.
