Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Export Processing Zone, set up in April 2000 under the approval of the State Council, was among the first batch of 15 pilot areas for export processing in the country.
It has a planned area of 2.9 square kilometers and the first phase put into operation covers 0.44 sq km.
The zone is currently under enclosure and isolation. Permanent buildings were constructed and each corner of the zone was equipped with automatic surveillance cameras. Other facilities such as passageways for container trucks, passenger cars and pedestrians, inspection rooms, declaration rooms, warehouses, alarm systems and a closed-circuit television system were all available in the SIP Export Processing Zone.
