Wuxi Export Processing Zone, a national development zone, was jointly checked and accepted by the nine ministries and commissions under the State Council in November 2002. It was upgraded into WND Free Trade Zone in April 2012.
With its planning area reaching 3.50 square kilometers, an area of 2.39 sq km of the zone started operations in January 2013. Located in Wuxi National Hi-Tech District, the free trade zone enjoys convenient transport. It is 100 km away from Shanghai, 147 km from Nanjing, only 3 km from the Shuofang entrance of the Shanghai-Nanjing expressway and 5 km to Wuxi's Shuofang International Airport.
Companies in the zone can enjoy not only convenient and efficient round-the-clock customs clearance services provided by Customs, but also preferential tax policies for both the FTZ and the district.
Industries in the zone are mainly related to electronic information, precision machinery manufacturing and modern services, and its leading industries are integrated circuit and precision machinery manufacturing.
In the first 10 months of 2018, the total import and export volume of the FTZ reached $19.06 billion, up 37.4 percent year-on-year, ranking sixth among all 66 comprehensive free trade zones in the country.
