Shaoxing High-tech Industrial Development Zone is located in Yuecheng district, Shaoxing, Zhejiang province. It was established in August 1992 as the Shaoxing Economic Development Zone, and upgraded to a national high-tech industrial development zone by the State Council in November 2010.
Leading industries include the electronic information industry and the life and health industry. With the breakthrough of integrated circuits, the electronic information industry has gathered a number of enterprises related to design, manufacturing, packaging and testing of semiconductors, such as SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation), Zhejiang BOE, Hangxin Technology, and Opus Optoelectronics. The life and health industry mainly covers the fields of medical materials, wearable devices, and large medical equipment.
Shaoxing is endowed with favorable regional advantages. Located on the south bank of Hangzhou Bay, it is connected to Ningbo in the east and Hangzhou in the west. It is an important hub along Hangzhou Bay.
In 2016, the development zone achieved total industrial output value of 15.54 billion yuan ($2.30 billion), a year-on-year increase of 1.5 percent. The output value of its high-tech industries was 4.77 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.7 percent, and the output value of emerging industries totaled 4.51 billion yuan. The service industry attracted investment of 7.56 billion yuan.
