The former Ruichang Industrial Park, constructed in August 2001, was listed as one of the provincial-level industrial parks in Jiangxi in March 2006. In July 2013, it was renamed Ruichang Economic Development Zone.
The zone covers three main areas: a downtown industrial park, an industrial city in Matou town and Datang New District.
It focuses on the development of eight pillar manufacturing industries: paper making and paper products, building materials, equipment, textiles and garments, chemicals, wood furniture, copper and copper products and cables.
In recent years, the development zone has also been promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. In 2017, 61 innovation companies settled in the area.
