Wanhua Chemical leads world in epoxy propane producing tech

A project for producing epoxy propane technology developed by Wanhua Chemical Group is proving to be world-leading according to an appraisal of the project by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation on Jan 5.

The project has been put into operation for over 90 days. It is expected that the technology will produce 500 tons of epoxy propane and 1,100 tons of styrene per year, and is an indication that Wanhua Chemical has broken the technological monopoly of foreign companies in the field.

The company has independent intellectual property rights for the project; a batch of technology for the efficient and green production of epoxy propane by co-oxidation of ethylbenzene.

Epoxy propane, a high-end petrochemical product, is the basic chemical raw material for supporting the development of these industries such as new polyurethane material, and fine chemical engineering.

Wanhuan Chemical, headquartered in Yantai, has become a world-leading chemical manufacturer. Its main business focuses on producing polyurethane, petrochemicals, performance chemicals and materials.

Wanhua Chemical plans to carry out the project with an investment of 3.25 billion yuan (471 million) in the Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2021.
