Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, received 2.7 million tourists over the recent three-day New Year holiday, generating 184 million yuan ($26.78 million) in tourism industry revenue, according to the data from the Hangzhou Municipal Tourism Commission.

Official statistics from Chinese online agencies also revealed that the number of tourists coming to the eastern city by high-speed rail has been on an upward trend, rising 23.32 percent compared with the figures for last year.

This could be partly attributed to the rapidly expanding high-speed railway network which offers passengers a fast and comfortable way to travel.

With the launch of the high-speed rail link between Hangzhou and the city of Huangshan in Anhui province -- with many scenic spots such as Huangshan Mountain, West Lake and Qiandao Lake along the route -- tourists flocked to visit the attractions and celebrated the New Year.

The most popular destinations in Hangzhou are traditional scenic spots such as West Lake Scenic Area and Lingyin Temple, among others. In addition to the existing tourist resources, many festive cultural activities also gave tourists a great impression of the city.

Most holiday travelers were born in the 1990s and young travelers have a preference for personalized trips at random travel times to varied destinations.

In terms of the visitors' personal consumption, Hangzhou ranks top per capita at 3,000 yuan, followed closely by Tianjin, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Hefei, Taiyuan, Guangzhou, Jinan and Wuxi.
