As Hangzhou is right on track for the 19th Asian Games in 2022, the capital city of Zhejiang province is soliciting ideas on intelligent transportation to ensure the Games are smart.

The Forum on Transportation Technologies for Asian Games of 2022, a parallel event of the Zhejiang International Transportation Industry Expo 2018 Future Traffic Conference, kicked off on Dec 22, drawing a group of global minds in transport and technological industries to share ideas on the solutions of smart transportation.

Chen Zhanglin, president of a Hangzhou-based construction company, introduced the road network structures and functions of the Asian Games Village and said that the total traffic volume per hour around the Asian Games Village is about 19,427 pcu/h (the maximum number of vehicles that can pass through a certain section per hour). Therefore, the road network capacity can meet the traffic needs during and after the games.

Liu Qi, an expert on the Internet of Vehicles (IOV) from China Unicom, suggested that 5G-based IOV technology can be applied in 2022 to drive intelligent sensing, intelligent networks, intelligent decision-making and intelligent applications.

"The intelligent level of Hangzhou's transportation system has been greatly improved, for example, the "City Brain" system, an intelligent system for urban management has been widely applied in various transportation scenarios," said Yu Chunquan, former deputy head of the Bejing Municipal Public Security Bureau.

Themed on "The Transportation Industry Leads the Intelligent Future", the Zhejiang International Transportation Industry Expo 2018 Future Traffic Conference, which ran from Dec 21 to 23, attracted a total of 134 enterprises and 16 projects worth 20 billion yuan ($2.9 billion).
