The city of Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, had spent 444 million yuan ($64.38 million) on poverty relief efforts by the end of November, a year-on-year increase of 13 million yuan.

Funds for poverty relief work came from a number of sources, including 216 million yuan from the national government and provincial government, 153 million from the city, and smaller amounts from local counties and banners.

Part of the money was used to develop agriculture and tourism, as well as other industries in the city’s less-developed villages.

The local government also subsidized local companies to encourage them to create jobs for residents on low incomes.

In addition, favorable loan policies were launched to help local residents borrow money to meet their own needs.
