Wenzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone (WETDZ) was established in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, with the approval of the State Council in 1992.

The city of Wenzhou is one of the three most economically advanced areas in the province, as well as being a major port city on the southeast coast of China.

WETDZ is endowed unique geological advantages. Located at the border between Zhejiang and Fujian province and at the core of the Wenzhou’s marine economy development zone, it is 16 kilometers from Zhuangyuan’ao Deep Water Wharf and 25 km from the Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou Railway, with Binghai Avenue, Shenhai Expressway and Subway S2 stretching across the zone.

WETDZ covers 140.18 square kilometers, is integrated with three other adjacent industrial parks, and has a population of more than 230,000.

In 2014, the total industrial output of the zone stood at over 100 billion yuan ($14.53 billion). It also gained fiscal revenue of more than 7 billion yuan.

At present, there are more than 3,000 industrial enterprises based in WETDZ, among which 373 are above designated size, covering a wide range of industries including electronic machinery, high-end facility manufacturing, e-commerce and logistics.

An industrial cluster of automobile manufacturing that is worth over 30 billion yuan has formed in the zone, generating 30 percent of its output of industries above designated size. The other three major industries are high-end facility manufacturing, e-commerce and logistics, and high-tech industry, accounting for 20 percent, 10 percent and 43 percent of the total output of industries above designated size.
