China Datang Corporation was founded on Dec 29, 2002 on the basis of some of the enterprises and public institutions under the former State Power Corporation of China. One of the large-scale power generation companies in China, it is a centrally-administered and wholly state-owned company. It is also a State Council-approved institution set up with state-authorized investment and pilot state-controlled company, with registered capital of more than 18 billion yuan ($2.61 billion).

Main business: Management of all state-owned assets in the corporation and related enterprises; development of electrical energy, investment,construction, operation and management; electricity (thermal power) generation and sales; manufacturing, repair, maintenance and testing of power systems; R & D of power technology and consulting service; contracting of electrical engineering and related environmental protection projects while offering consultation service in this field; new energy development; electricity-related coal resource development and production; import and export of various products and technologies as well as agent service in these regards; contracting of overseas projects and international tendering projects in China; export of equipment and materials required by the aforesaid overseas projects; and labor dispatch service for overseas projects.

China Datang Corporation adopts a governance system and operation model on the basis of a three-tier organizational structure encompassing the corporation, branch (subsidiary) companies, and grassroots enterprises. It has set up 13 provincial power generation companies, including those in Hebei, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, six branch companies in Hunan, Guangxi, Shanxi, Tibet, Shanghai and Ningxia, and specialized companies such as Datang Electric Power Fuel Co.

Presently, China Datang Corporation owns five listed companies – Datang International Power Generation Co, the first Chinese company listed in London and the first power company listed in Hong Kong; Datang Huayin Electric Power Co and Guangxi Guiguan Electric Power Co, two of the earliest domestically-listed companies; the Hong Kong-listed China Datang Corporation Renewable Power Co and Datang Environment Industry Group Co. Datang owns Inner Mongolia Datang International Tuoketuo Power Generation Co, China’s largest thermal power plant in operation, as well as Datang Saihanba Wind Farm in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, the world’s largest wind farm in operation. It also owns the Longtan Hydropower Station, one of China’s biggest hydropower stations, and China National Water Resources & Electric Power Materials & Equipment Co, which has logistic networks covering the whole country. Datang has made the list of Fortune Global 500 companies for eight consecutive years since 2010.
