The Jintang Port Area of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in Zhoushan saw a vessel discharging 12,172 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) at its Dapukou Terminal on Nov 29.
The vessel, MSC Bettina, is the first one ever seen in the Jintang Port Area carrying over 10,000 TEUs, and beats the former record held by Mediterranean Saturn as the largest vessel in terms of the number of TEU discharged in the port area.
Mediterranean Saturn discharged over 8,500 TEUs at the Yongzhou Terminal of the Jintang Port Area on Nov 14.
The Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, formed out of the integration of the Ningbo and Zhoushan Ports in 2015, became the first port in the world to handle over 1 billion tons of cargo in a year since it handled 1.01 billion metric tons of cargo in 2017.
The port has ranked 1st globally in cargo throughput for nine consecutive years. It handled 24.61 million TEUs in 2017, ranking 3rd in China and 4th globally in TEU throughput.
