A national college student innovation and entrepreneurship base was officially launched in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on Nov 28, to attract more innovative talents and boost the industrial development of the city.
The base, headquartered in the New Town in Dinghai district, has locations in four sites across the city, including the Zhoushan Dinghai Ocean Science City of China in Dinghai district, Putuo Bay Maker Space in Putuo district, as well as the Ocean College of Zhejiang University and Zhejiang Ocean University.
All these locations possess abundant office rooms equipped with full amenities for innovation makers to conduct research and start businesses.
Notably, the location at Zhejiang Ocean University, or Maker Space, boasts 24 well-appointed office rooms for business incubation and provides technical and business operating guidance for entrepreneurial individuals or teams.
It has established special funds of 300,000 yuan ($43,200) for innovative and entrepreneurial activities, and has incubated over 200 start-ups from 2015 to 2017. Meanwhile, the school was honored as one of the province's first provincial-level entrepreneurial training demonstration bases in 2017.
Zhoushan has been committed to boosting its innovative and entrepreneurial capacity for industrial development over the years, by supporting college students in starting businesses, which has yielded significant outcomes.
The city has to date established 11 college student innovation parks, with 727 companies having settled in them, creating 3,421 new jobs and generating an output of 272 million yuan.
