Grzegorz Niemczuk, one of Poland's most active classical pianists, gave a piano recital at Xiamen University in East China's Fujian province on Nov 21.

He performed renowned works by famous Polish composer and pianist Frederick Chopin for Xiamen students.

During his stay in the city, he also gave a lecture at Gulangyu Piano School of China's top music university, the Central Conservatory of Music, and visited  Gulangyu, an island off Xiamen's coast dubbed the "island of pianos" for more than 100 musical families used to live in the 1.87-square-kilometer area.

Niemczuk has won many international piano competitions, notably the 2013 International Carnegie Hall Concerto Debut Competition in New York City. He has given more than 400 concerts in over 31 countries.

Niemczuk's performance in Xiamen was part of the annual Polish Circles of Art Festival – China Tour organized by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship With Foreign Countries and the Polish Circles of Art Foundation. The aim of the tour is to promote friendly exchanges between cities in both countries, whose first stop this year was in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, from Nov 9 to 11.
