Manufactured by CRRC Dalian Co Ltd, China's first new-generation medium and low-speed maglev train was launched at the company's new plant in Lushunkou, Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning province, on Nov 2, and will go into a static debugging period.

Compared with previous maglevs, the new-generation model has improved acceleration, running speed, cornering and climbing ability and riding comfort, the company said.

The new maglev is as tall as an ordinary metro vehicle, and can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

The test vehicle conducted trial operations in Shanghai in June 2017 at a speed of 121 km/h, and passed reviews by experts in August 2017.

According to research by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, China is expected to have built more than five medium and low-speed maglev commercial operation lines by the end of 2020.

Currently, more than 10 cities, including Beijing, Tianjin, Wuhan, Chengdu and Guangzhou, are planning maglev projects.
